			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>With jobs to go to, kids to put to bed, homework to check, dishes to get done, and wives to spend time with, it&#8217;s really difficult for busy dads to squeeze in a workout. For example, I have a 3 year old son, a working wife, and a number of business ventures I&#8217;m involved in. To say my life is hectic is an understatement.</p>
<p>The easiest way I&#8217;ve found to stay in shape is to practice body weight exercises. They probably won&#8217;t bulk you up as quickly as lifting weights, but if pushups, situps, dips, and pullups are good enough for army commandos, then they&#8217;re good enough for me.</p>
<p>Here are some reasons why you should be doing body weight exercises:</p>
<p>Speed - Body weight and isometric exercises are fast. It is said that an isometric contraction can last for as little as 7 seconds for you to start benefiting from it. When done properly, isometrics recruit more muscle fibers than isolated exercises, and the more muscle fibers that are used, the more you build up your strength. Your workout can be completed in just half an hour.</p>
<p>Effectiveness - If you&#8217;re wondering how effective body weight exercises are, just ask the firemen, police officers, and elite fighters who do them on a daily basis. They won&#8217;t be the biggest guys you&#8217;ve ever seen, but they&#8217;ll be among the strongest. And that&#8217;s the only thing that matters. If you feel like you&#8217;re starting to plateau, you can add weights, increase the reps, do variations, etc. You can use weighted vests to add more resistance to your situps, pullups, etc.</p>
<p>Efficiency - What could be better than free? Body weight exercises are both effective and economical. Just think, you can finally start saving for that pony your daughter has always wanted! Not only are isometrics and body weight exercises financially efficient, they are time efficient. In certain styles of martial arts there is a strong emphasis on &#8220;economy of movement&#8221;, meaning you shouldn&#8217;t exert a lot of energy on something if you don&#8217;t have to. Focus on the task before you and get it done with an appropriate amount of effort.</p>
<p>Mobility - You can do body weight exercises anywhere. We all have cell phones and laptops, so we know how important it is to be able to move around. Why should we rely on exercise equipment and gyms? It&#8217;s a lot easier to do situps and pushups in the basement or living room than it is to drive to the gym and wait around for equipment to be free. Once you&#8217;ve learnt some of the exercises, you&#8217;ll see how easy they are to fit into your daily routine.</p>
<p>Obviously, weight training is important if you want to get stronger and build lots of muscle. If we could spend an hour in the gym everyday we would. But with a lifestyle that that has to accommodate so many non-exercise related tasks, body weight training is the best route for the rest of us.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Anxiety is part of what is called fight-or-flight response, which is generated by the sympathetic nervous system. The sympathetic nervous system along with the parasympathetic nervous system forms the autonomic nervous system. The actions from the autonomic nervous system are automatic and not under our conscious control.</p>
<p>The sympathetic nervous system activates the fight-or-flight response, while the parasympathetic nervous system restores the body to normal mode. While one is responsible to rev up, the other is responsible to hit the breaks.</p>
<p>The fight-or-flight response is a natural protection of the organism during a threat, which can be real or imaginary. We either go away from the threat or fight it. That is why some people who suffer from anxiety are very aggressive, while others run away in fear, during a threatening situation.</p>
<p>The physiology of fight-or-flight involves production of adrenaline and cortisone by the adrenal glands. These hormones cause:</p>
<p>-Quicker heartbeats, which results in more oxygen going to the muscles</p>
<p>-Faster breathing</p>
<p>-Sweating</p>
<p>-Less circulation of blood in the gastro-intestinal tract and skin and more circulation in the skeletal muscles and lungs</p>
<p>-Release of glucose from the liver to the bloodstream to give energy to the body to confront the threat</p>
<p>-Dilation of pupils</p>
<p>Cortisone inhibits the immune system, which reduces inflammation and pain. We can see that this is useful in case of physical danger (i.e. the organism that is injured can better face the threat with less pain).<br />
<br />Suppression of the immune system by cortisone is the probable reason why people that are usually stressed or anxious are more susceptible to sickness.</p>
<p>Because, adrenaline and cortisone take some time to be destroyed by the body, anxiety or discomfort is still present after the threatening situation. This delay for the elimination of these hormones is also for protection of the organism, just in case the threat comes back.</p>
<p>We can see that the fight-or-flight response exists for the body to physically act. This was most useful when humans had to hunt to survive. During this time, threats that required immediate and fast physical action, such as an attack by an animal, were more frequent.</p>
<p>In modern life, intense physical action is not what is needed most of the time during moments of anxiety, as for example, in stressful situations at work or school. Everybody faces situations that cause the fight-or-flight response. The problem is when this happens frequently due to psychological problem. In this case, if it is not controlled it can be harmful to one&rsquo;s health.</p>
<p>There are several approaches that can be used to reduce anxiety, such as, physical exercise, changes in life style (e.g. more rest time), cognitive-behavioral therapy, meditation, visualization, relaxation techniques, neuro-linguistic programming, and others. All these methods can be used for any type of anxiety. If combined together, the effect on the reduction of anxiety will probably be better.</p>
<p>The approach to be used will depend on what you believe will work for you. Try one and if it does not work, try another one. You will eventually find what works best for you.</p>

<p>Many people tend to forget that our skin is the largest organ of our body and thus dismiss that it, too, needs to be taken care of properly with good habits such as exercise. Among the benefits of exercising for our skin&rsquo;s sake is increased circulation of blood and oxgyen delivering nutrients to skin cells, as well as creating the best environment for producing collagen (the substance that helps the prevention of fine lines and wrinkles).</p>
<p>When you sweat, toxins get released through the skin from pores, which open when they are heated. Sweating cleanses the pores from dirt, dead skin, and excess oil &ndash; all of which create unfavourable flare-ups and ugly looking skin.</p>
<p>One of the greatest benefits of exercise to the skin is on acne-prone skin. Since increased stress is one factor that contributes to our acne breakouts, when you exercise your stress levels lower and your body needs less of the testosterone hormones that are part of acne flare-up. Therefore, exercise control stress, and so it helps control acne.</p>

<p>2. Drink plenty of water after your workout. Water is essential for ridding your body of toxins and replacing all the water lost from sweating. There is a correlation between drinking water and reducing acne breakouts, so drink, drink, drink!</p>
<p>3. If you go for a swim, it is important to rinse yourself after swimming to clean off the chlorine on your body, which can irritate you later.</p>

<p>The first thing to start sweating, is our brain. When our muscles create extra heat-energy, the brain reacts by sending a signal to the sweat glands to start working to keep the body cool so that it does not over-heat.</p>
<p>Our skin, is made up of different layers, at the bottom there is the Subcutaneous Tissue, which is where nerves and large blood vessels are held in fat and connective tissue. On top of the subcutaneous layer there is the sensitive tissue that houses nerve endings, subaceuos glands, bloody and lymph vessels, and sweat glands. This layer is called Dermis.</p>
<p>Next comes the Epidermis, which is a protective, nonvascular layer. Then there is the new skin layer, which is just underneath the Stratum Corneum, which is what we see, in some areas it is thicker than in others, for example our foot skin is harder then our arm skin.</p>
<p>So, our sweat glands start in the dermis, and continue up and into pores through the other layers. Sweat glands are wrapped in nerves, which is how our brain sends the signal to our sweat glands to start working.</p>
<p>There are many different ways to start sweating, including sweat-inducing gadgets, sauna&rsquo;s, steam baths, or working out.</p>
<p>Note: while sweating, be sure to drink lots of water so that you do not become dehydrated.</p>

<p>Some will even go further than that and tell you that their dentist told them it wasn&rsquo;t their fault, it was &lsquo;inherited.&rsquo;</p>
<p>The truth of the matter is rather different, and in over 40 years as a dental professional, admittedly in Western Europe there is not one single occasion when I have seen baby teeth badly formed. It bears repeating that not once have I seen baby teeth badly formed. I have seen many children with holes in their teeth caused by decay, and even during trips to very poor countries like Nepal, where the diet is at best poor, the same holds true.</p>
<p>So what is the truth of the matter?</p>
<p>The truth is that bad teeth are not inherited in any shape or form, but what is inherited is what we eat and drink, which is a consequence of what our parents give us on a daily basis.</p>
<p>In other words the state of our teeth particularly when we are small children is as inherited from our parents attitudes and beliefs, and how much importance they attach to tooth brushing.</p>
<p>In far too many families toothbrushing isn&rsquo;t important, and it is significant that where parents and grandparents have false teeth, the children very often have decay. The excuse is always, that &lsquo;soft teeth&rsquo; runs in the family. This is absolute rubbish, and if a diet sheet can be obtained, and if the reader has fillings every time they attend their dentist, then it is a worthwhile exercise to write down everything you have to eat and drink over a four day period including weekends.</p>
<p>What you will almost always find is a combination of obvious sugars, such as sugar in tea or coffee, and sugar in the form of sweets or coca cola. These are obvious, and it is a sobering thought if you have two spoonfuls of sugar in your tea or coffee and have six cups a day, how much sugar you are actually consuming. Take a cup and put 12 spoonfuls of sugar into it, and take a look. The added sadness is that you will always take the sweet option as opposed to the sour option, so the chances are you&rsquo;d rather have a sweet biscuit than a dry biscuit, because you have developed a &lsquo;sweet tooth.</p>
<p>Equally sad is the fact that many people don&rsquo;t realise that tomato ketchup is almost neat sugar.
